What is Kriya Yoga?

Kriya Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice that has been reawakened by Maha Avatar Babaji.

It comprises of a set of breathing techniques rather than Yoga postures used for exercise.

What are the benefits?

Here are some of the benefits of the practice:

  • Oxygenates the body
  • Helps to accelerate your spiritual journey
  • Helps to train and discipline the mind
  • Helps you to find peace within you
  • Prepares you for meditation
  • The exercises are simple to do

Do I need to be religious?

Not at all. Although the practice is spiritual in origin, anyone can learn the breathing techniques, whatever the situation in life.

If you are looking for peace, the Kriyas will really help you.

After learning, can I teach Kriya Yoga or write about the technique?

The practice of Kriya Yoga is simple to learn and has been transmitted from teacher to student for millennia.

Becoming a teacher takes roughly 2 years of practice, attending workshops and deeper training with Paramahansa Aliyananda in Cornwall. It is she who decides if you are ready to accept this responsibility. Not everyone is suited.

What is generally not understood is that the teacher takes on some of the burden of the student, which then has to be worked off. If you are not ready, then you can become very unwell.

If you write about the technique, then someone may try to follow the steps. What happens if they have questions, get confused or are not doing it correctly? Whom do they turn to for help? Ask yourself if this is respectful to them or to those who have dedicated themselves to this practice and have taught you.

If you want to be a teacher, dedicate yourself to the practice of Kriya Yoga and approach Paramahansa Aliyananda who will then guide you.

Where can I find my nearest teacher?

Please look at the teachers section. The number of teachers are growing. Paramahansa Aliyananda hand picks the teachers from her students to ensure they will teach in the authentic style.

Why are there so few UK course dates for Paramahansa Aliyananda?

Paramahansa Aliyananda teaches for most of the year. She is carrying out the World Peace Mission and so travels abroad extensively.

When Paramahansa Aliyananda is able to fit in a course in the UK, it will be published here.

We humbly suggest that if you wish to attend a course, please book early.
